How can I clean out the sample stocks?

The easiest way is to delete the entire contents of the directory “Programs Files\myStockWatcher\quotes”.

Can I get myStockWatcher to stay active but not take up space on my task bar?

Yes. When you start myStockWatcher the myStockWatcher icon will appear on the right side of the task bar in the system tray. If you left click the icon the myStockWatcher window will close but stay active in the background. If you click the icon again the window will reappear.

I entered an incorrect purchase price for one of my stocks. How can I fix it?

On the Buy/Sell/Track tab click Transactions On. Select the stock to be fixed from the drop down list. Double click the transaction with the incorrect data. Enter the correct value and click OK.

I want to track a stock that I hope to buy when the price is right. Can I do that? How?

Yes you can do that. Start by simply entering the stock symbol of the stock you want to track and click Track. Next go to the Portfolio Value tab and click Update Portfolio. This will capture the current price of the stock and set its Buy/Sell entry to N/A. Now click Set Buy/Sell. Click Dollar Value in the Set Buy/Sell Ranging By box. Set the price that will cause you to buy in the Buy at or Above field. Click on OK to close the dialog. Note that the Buy/Sell entry has changed to Wait. When the price you set is achieved the entry will change to Buy. If you have enabled email alerts, you will also get an actionable email when your buy price is reached.

FAQs

I already own a bunch of Microsoft shares. Can myStockWatcher monitor the stock price and let me know if it rises above or falls below a certain value?

Absolutely.  If you don’t want to enter the transactions but simply want myStockWatcher to keep an eye on the price then simply enter a Track transaction. Then go to the Portfolio Value tab and click Update Portfolio to capture the current price of a share of Microsoft. Next click on Set Buy/Sell Value and enter your high price in the Buy at or Above field and your low price in the Buy at or Below field. Should a share of Microsoft move across either price boundary its Buy/Sell entry will change to Buy and if you have enabled email alerts you will get a similar buy indication via email.

How can I get myStockWatcher to start automatically? I forget to start it and then nothing is captured that day.

Windows includes a facility called Scheduled Tasks. Find it by clicking Settings/Control Panel/Scheduled Tasks/Add Scheduled Tasks. When the wizard starts click Next. Select myStockWatcher from the list of tasks. Click Next. Select Daily if you want to run myStockWatcher every day. Otherwise select Weekly. Click Next. Select a Start Time (preferably shortly before your set Capture Time) and set it to start Weekdays. The Start Date will be set to the current date. Click Next. Enter a User Name and Password of the user under which myStockWatcher will run (usually your own Windows login). Click Finish.

As long as your system is powered on and Windows is running myStockWatcher will automatically begin execution at the set time.
